{"id":9474,"date":"2026-08-18T13:09:21","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T11:09:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mindef.gov.cm\/gendarmerie-nationale\/?p=9474"},"modified":"2026-08-18T13:13:18","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T11:13:18","slug":"remembrance-day-2026-tribute-to-the-fallen-soldiers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mindef.gov.cm\/gendarmerie-nationale\/en\/2026\/08\/18\/remembrance-day-2026-tribute-to-the-fallen-soldiers\/","title":{"rendered":"REMEMBRANCE DAY 2026 : TRIBUTE TO THE FALLEN SOLDIERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This day&#8217;s commemoration ceremony, at the esplanade of the Yaounde War Memorial, was presided over by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Galax ETOGA, representing the Minister of Defence.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9430\" src=\"https:\/\/mindef.gov.cm\/gendarmerie-nationale\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/08\/POUR-LA-PATRIE-3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9434\" src=\"https:\/\/mindef.gov.cm\/gendarmerie-nationale\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/08\/POUR-LA-PATRIE-8-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This ceremony, heavy with emotions, was marked by a moment of reflection and gratitude to the fallen soldiers, who died fighting for the nation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9426\" src=\"https:\/\/mindef.gov.cm\/gendarmerie-nationale\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/08\/POUR-LA-PATRIE-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9446\" src=\"https:\/\/mindef.gov.cm\/gendarmerie-nationale\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/08\/POUR-LA-PATRIE-9-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In his address, the Director of the National Office of Veterans, Former Soldiers and War Victims (ONACAM), Colonel Alfred FULLER, emphasized that the remembrance day is not only dedicated to evoking the past but also to transmit values to the new generation. He then stressed that, the foundations of a nation are built by courage, discipline, fidelity, and core concept. The director of ONACAM also invited everyone to have a kind thought for the deceased soldiers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9450\" src=\"https:\/\/mindef.gov.cm\/gendarmerie-nationale\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/08\/POUR-LA-PATRIE-5-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9454\" src=\"https:\/\/mindef.gov.cm\/gendarmerie-nationale\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/08\/POUR-LA-PATRIE-10-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In his speech, first on behalf of the President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mr. SED\/CGN expressed to the veterans, former soldiers and war survivors, the nation\u2019s deep gratitude for the sacrifices and services rendered to the nation, before paying a vibrant tribute to the fallen soldiers. He stressed that their patriotism, discipline, loyalty and sense of duty must serve as a moral compass for the new generations. Galax ETOGA also praised the courage, determination, bravery and selflessness of the Defence and Security Forces who work tirelessly to protect the population, defend territorial integrity of the nation and preserve the peace and stability of Cameroon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9458\" src=\"https:\/\/mindef.gov.cm\/gendarmerie-nationale\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/08\/POUR-LA-PATRIE-14-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9462\" src=\"https:\/\/mindef.gov.cm\/gendarmerie-nationale\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/08\/POUR-LA-PATRIE-15-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The speeches were followed by the tribute ceremony itself. It was marked by the laying of a wreath at the foot of the War Memorial by Mr. SED\/CGN, followed by the funeral bell and the singing of the national anthem. The ceremony ended with a patriotic march that led the participants from the War Memorial to the City Hotel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium presidential decree of 27 August 2008, the Remembrance Day is dedicated to the celebration of peace and national unity and to the memory of veterans, former soldiers who died for the
