The Defence Forces commemorate Ash Wednesday.
To mark the start of Lent, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Beti Assomo Joseph alongside soldiers gathered at the Hall of Acts of the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday February 14, 2024 to commemorate Ash Wednesday as prescribed in the Christian calender.

In the presence of the Military Chaplain, Reverend Father Ndjouga Jack, the seminarian from the Catholic University of Central Africa, Cedric Nzogang drew inspiration from the Books of Prophet Joel Chapter 2 verse 12-19 and that of St. Paul Chapter 5 verse 20-21, focusing on repentance and prayer during his homily. Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, a 40-day period of repentance, fasting, reflecttion anf forgineness. This seson symbolises Christ’s time of temptation in the wilderness, emphasizing fasting, and reflection on Christ’s life, ministry, sacrifice and resurrection. Soldiers of various ranks and civilian personnel of the Ministry of Defence received ashes on their foreheads, signifying the beginning of this solemn period of spiritual introspection.
