Brain Project Africa begins surgical operations at the Garoua General Hospital
The first Neurosurgical operations covered by ‘Brain Project Africa’ have begun at the Garoua General Hospital on July 30, 2024

This incentive that saw the arrival of the team of abroad-based and local Cameroonian and foreign medical experts on July 29 in Garoua has proceeded with operations for patients suffering from a plethora of neurosurgical traumas, some of which came in from other parts of the country.

Doctors Jean Louis Benae and Nana Yaw Appiah, Co-founders of ‘Brain Project Africa’ led the college of medical personnel into the theatre room to carry out surgeries on the first cases, beginning with retired Colonel Mahouh Mathurin who for the past three months has suffered a right-sided leg pain.

The objective of this surgery is creating a space around the compressed nerve and removing the disk that is pushing on the nerve from underneath it. The operation went smoothly, he will be able to walk today’, said Dr Akwasi Boah, neurosurgeon from Dallas, Texas who together with Dr Djoubairou Ben of the University of Douala and team worked on the retired Colonel.

For the first day, a total number of 7 cases were successfully operated upon. The same procedure continues in the days ahead.
