ONACAM commemorates 34th edition of the International Day of Elderly Persons
The National Office for Veterans, Ex-Servicemen and Victims of War of Cameroon (ONACAM) on October 2 and 3, 2024 jointed the International Community to commemorate the 34th edition of the International Day of the Elderly Persons, celebrated on October 1, 2024 worldwide.

This edition under the theme ‘Ageing with Dignity’ was presided over by the Deputy Director General of ONACAM, retired Major Ossongo Ada Jean Leonard, personal representative of the Director General, retired Colonel Alfred Fuller who joined the men and women of the association in sports and film show activities within the year. In a round table talk, Ngolle Marie, an expert in nutritional health, gave the participants tips on how to take care of themselves by responding to needs that are common to people of their ages.

Among these needs she named emotional, social, physical and health challenges with much emphasis on feeding habits, often neglected but a guarantee to good body weight and a preventive for illnesses.

The representative of the elderly men, retired Captain Roger Mbarga Avah thanked the executive of ONACAM and its Director General for the initiatives geared towards making their lives as retired Military and Gendarmerie personnel better. He called on the Director General to plead with the high Command for the construction of a hospital for elderly persons within the confine of ONACAM.

In an atmosphere of merriment, some of the members of ONACAM expressed themselves through songs and dancing while the rest shared a common meal offered them by retired Colonel Alfred Fuller.

ONACAM was created in July 25, 2001 by the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Paul Biya to replace ONAC, the first managing structure of War Veterans in Cameroon as remedy for the social problems of ex-servicemen.

ONACAM has as mission to protect in all circumstances, the material and moral interest of Cameroonian War victims having served either in the National Armed Forces or in Foreign Forces under pre-independence institutions or special agreements.
