MINDEF Women prepare for Women’s Day fitness
In prelude to the celebration of the 40th edition of the International Women’ Day under the theme “For All Women and Girls: Equal Rights and Empowerment”, military and civilian personnel of the Ministry of Defence on March 6, 2025 took part in a sporting activity to spice up their week.

The sporting activity which took place on Thursday March 6, 20, saw a massive turn-out of the women who used the opportunity to relax themselves of their professional exigencies. The presence of the Commander of the First Military Sector, Colonel Foumane Ndongo Thierry in the 5km walk was a booster to the women who saw the high command represented to honour them. As usual other assimilated Forces like the Custom department, the Penitentiary and the Forest Rangers answered present to the call of women solidarity as they strive towards a common goal.

The women began flocked the Ngoa-Ekelle Military stadium as early as 6. am for the 8th edition of the sports walk organized by the First Military Sector. More than a thousand women undertook a sporting walk of about 5km in a bid to be physically fit to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the International Women’s Day.

Hand in hand, they walked along a distance of 5km to showcase unity and celebrate living together while singing and dancing as only women know how. After the sports walk, the women assembled at the Military Stadium and with the help of sports instructors under the Directorate of Sport, Cutural and Artistic Activities (DSACA) of the Ministry of Defence, the women carried out an exercise of body stretching to relax their muscles.
