MINDEF Women commemorate Women’s Day in united, diversity, strenght

In a week marked by physical and intellectual activities prior to the International Women’s Day, thousands of women from all works of life took part in the solemn event marking the 40th edition of the International Women’s Day commemorated under the theme,‘FOR AII WOMEN AND GIRLS: EQUAL RIGHTS AND EMPOWERMENT’. The women were drawn from diverse ministries, corporations, enterprises, political parties amongst which were those of Ministry of Defence. The D Day which is reserved for the general march pass at the May 20th Boulevard saw the participation of the civilian and military personnel of the Ministry of Defence.

In the early hours of Friday March 8, 2025, women of the Ministry of Defence converged at the officier’s mess, beautifully dressed in their women’s day fabric. Upon arrival at the 20th May Boulevard, the Minister of Women Empowerment and the Family, Madam Abena Ondoa Marie Theresse welcomed First Lady Mme Chantal Biya gorgeously dressed in a similar women’s day fabric like her peers as she took to the tribune for the event to commence.

To the rhythm of the music squadron of the National Gendarmerie, the Women of the Ministry of Defence comprising of military and civilian personnel in two distinct squares marched pass the tribune in marshal foot steps to the ovation of Mme Chantal Biya and her guests. After a spectacular show put up by the women of the Ministry of Defence at the 20th May Boulevard, the celebration continued at the headquarters brigade where Minister Beti Assomo Joseph communioned with the women for a common meal offered in their honour.

As part of the ceremony, the Technical Adviser in the ministry of defence, Colonel Ngabala Annie Jeanette, the representative of MINDEF women, outlined the importance of the international day of the woman and the security context in which the women in the ministry of defence commemorate the day. She went ahead to hail the women in the Ministry of Defence for their sense of dedication and sense of patriotism in the execution of their duties and the successes they have recorded overtime for the good of the nation. She equally emphasized the importance of the international day of the woman and thanked MINDEF and all invitees for honoring the invitation.

In response, Minister Beti Assomo acknowledged the undeniable contribution of women to the advancement of work in the Ministry of Defence and urged them to continue in the same vein in their different spheres of influence in the guise of promoting peace and resolving conflicts.

To grace the event was the famous comedian keguege International and FAP musician artists like Martial Becker killed the stress and brought joy. It should be recalled that woman who have always been regarded upon as the mother of humanity has been celebrated in a grandiose way for years now worldwide and in the ministry of defence in particular. So far, her pride, value, dispensability and vital role she plays in the society and the rest of the world has been recognized by the international community.
