French defence Advisor decorated Knight of the order of valour
The Defence advisor at the French embassy in Cameroon, Colonel Frédéric EDEL on August 27, 2025 was elevated to the rank of Knight of the Order of Valour on exceptional basis in a ceremony that marked the end of his two-year mission in Cameroon.

In an occasion that was presided over by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Beti Assomo Joseph, top ranking military and civilian officials of both countries including the Cameroon Secretaries of State to the Minister of Defence, the French Ambassador to Cameroon, the Chief of Defence Staff, a cross section of the military high command, soldiers serving within the French diplomatic mission in Cameroon were present to bid farewell to the graduate of ESIG called for other duties in France.

Beti Assomo Joseph used the opportunity to hail Colonel Frédéric EDEL whose services earned the recognition of the President of Republic and Commander- in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Paul Biya who through Presidential decree number 2025/380 of 31 July 2025 was awarded the medal of Knight of the Order of Valour.

Describing the Defence Advisor, the French Ambassador and former French Military officer, Thierry Marchand appointed on October 4, 2022 described the outgoing Defence Attaché as someone who has ‘a greater feeling of the Cameroonian territory and its people’, one whose collaboration with the Cameroon military hierarchy facilitated the realization of many projects in the bilateral cooperation enforcement bid’.

Addressing both the French ambassador and the outgoing military Advisor, Beti Assomo Joseph outlined some major accomplishments in the French-Cameroon cooperation, amongst them; the modernization of infrastructures such as the military hospital, the Military Engineering Corps, the follow up of Curriculum at the International War College in Simbock, Yaounde, carrying out training modules with the Special Forces and more.

‘We strongly appreciated his engagement, his courage, his professionalism, his calmness, his commitment and his perfect mastery of affaires of both countries’ Beti Assomo added.

Cameroon and France share a long history of bilateral cooperation, beginning from the participation of Cameroon soldiers in the De Gaulle War, during and after the post-colonial era.
