CAMEROON ENDORSES A DEFENCE PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPLUBLIC
Cameroon and the Central African Republic within the framework of fostering bilateral defence and security cooperation on September 4, 2025 signed a partnership defence agreement in the Hall of Acts of the Ministry of Defence.

On high Instructions of President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Cameroon Defence Forces, Paul BIYA, and Professor Faustin Archange TOUADERA, President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Central African Republic, BETI ASSOMO Joseph, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence of Cameroon, and Rameaux-Claude BIREAU, Minister of National Defence and Army Reconstruction of the Central African Republic met in Yaounde as part of ongoing consultations on matters of common interest between Cameroon and the Central African Republic.

Accompanied by experts on defence and security issues, the two ministers of the countries that share a similar colonial history, geopraphy and culture praised the existing cooperation from the time of independence, leading to official visits of CAR degations to the Cameroon towns of Bertoua, Ngaoundere, Garoua-Boulai and return visits of Cameroon delegations to the towns of Bangui, Bouar, Bossangoa and most recently Beberati.

‘ This defence agreement will contribute to the development of our two countries because terrorists’ activities within our borders hamper development. Today is a great day because we have long anticipated the signing of this partnership. Cameroon and the Central African Republic share the same transborder line in which reigns a lot of insecurity. Imagine a country like ours without a weapons production factory but at a point in time being a breathing grown for weapons. We are going to no doubt through joint efforts drastically reduce insecurity through this partnership’, said Minister Rameaux-Claude BIREAU.

It is expected that these collective efforts will curb criminality and banditry within the territorial borders in order to permit for a free circulation of persons, facilitating trade, thus contributing to improving both economies.
