The ceremony, presided over by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo, on behalf of the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Paul Biya, brought together members of government, service chiefs, members of the diplomatic corps and families to celebrate five newly promoted generals.

Earlier in the day, the officers had received their epaulettes during a formal decoration at the Headquarters Brigade.

In keeping with republican tradition, the evening reached its climax with the symbolic “watering of the insignia”, the time-honoured ritual by which senior state and defence leaders formally usher the honorees into the inner circle of the High Command.

In his address, Minister Beti Assomo commended the discipline, patriotism and leadership of the new generals, promoted by presidential decree on 3 August 2026. He paid a warm tribute to their spouses, noting that domestic harmony remains the bedrock of success at the highest levels of national security.

Beyond the five officers, the Minister Delegate extended the Nation’s gratitude to all servicemen and women safeguarding Cameroon’s borders and people.

After a solemn toast to national sovereignty, prosperity and the Head of State, formalities gave way to celebration. Guests enjoyed a grand banquet enlivened by acclaimed artistes Fadil le Sorcière, Ambrose Messi and Le Général Ama Pierrot alongside the Orchestra of the Army’s Main Music Band, whose vibrant rhythms brought culture, dignity and festive spirit to a night of national honour.
