The Commander of the Firefighters Corps, Brigadier General Mahamat Ahmed Kotoko on December 18 to 19 2024 at the Command Post of the National Firefighters Corps in Warda, Yaounde, presided over the opening of the annual evaluation meeting of the Firefighters Corps.

The evaluation and retrospection meeting attended by various officials had as objective to assess the operational performance and training measures related to civil protection. Throughout 2024, the firefighters were deployed to 2,500 fire zones rescuing and carrying out over 6000 diverse interventions to assist the population. In terms of training efforts, 300 specialists were trained in diverse domains most especially in first aid and fire safety, while 1500 young firefighters were also trained in essential safety protocols.

Looking ahead, the modernisation of the National Firefighters Corps is set to advance significantly. The contract signed with the French group DESAUTEL on December 5, 2023 to facilitate the acquisition of 227 high-tech vehicles, has provided on May 2024 fifty-seven vector vehicles that is forty-eight intervention vehicles and nine vehicles command link. On December 2024, the company also provided 18 pomp vans.

According to General Mahamat Ahmed Kotoko, by February 2025 DESAUTEL group will add fifty extra fire engines, air and water pomp vans, ambulances and radiological and technological vans. He also reiterated that, this acquisition will enable the operationalisation of forty rescue centres across the country, thereby expanding the Corps’ territorial coverage. Still in this year, specialized trainings were provided for personnel in the maintenance and use of these new technologies over a period of approximately five years.

In concluding the command meeting, the General emphasized on several key recommendations for the territorial commanders to strengthen relationships with other administrative bodies, to collaborate effectively with administrative authorities, to maintain discipline among the troops and to enhance the operational and administrative skills of the staff. He also urged them to remain motivated especially during this end of year festivities in addressing the challenges posed by the ongoing modernization efforts, underscoring the commitment of the Corps to improve its services and responsiveness to emergencies.
