The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Beti Assomo Joseph alongside the Minister of Decentralisation and local Development, Georges ELANGA OBAM on Monday December 23, 2024 presided over the official inauguration ceremony of the seven kilometres long and ten metres wide road of Afanayoa in the Yaounde III Subdivision piloted by the Military Engineering Corps.

The Military Engineering Corps has once again demonstrated its pivotal role in Cameroonโ€™s development, with the successful completion of the Afanoyoa road project. This ambitious undertaking, financed by the Yaounde City Council, aimed to address the long-standing issue of movement of people and goods in the Yaounde III Sub-division.

The project, which commenced in February 2023, involved the construction of a 7-kilometre-long and ร 10-metre-wide road, stretching from Camp Sonel junction to Afanoyoa Junction and further to the boundary with Bikok Sub-division and Government High School Afanoyoa.

The project was executed in three phases. Phase one; focused on the rehabilitation of the earth road and reconstruction of the foundation and base layers using laterite. This phase, completed in April 2023, included demolition, excavation, and construction of culverts as well as drainage systems.

Phase two; concentrated on drainage works, featuring the construction of triangular and rectangular concrete trenches, retaining walls, and floor drains. While the final phase, Phase three; involved the construction of pavements and shoulders, including sidewalks, road signs, and metal railings on bridges.

The Afanayoa road is a dream come true after so many years of gestation, what a wonder Christmas gift to the inhabitants of the area and its environs.
