EMPOWERING CAMEROONIAN SOLDIERS : Comprehensive legal knowledge guide for Army – Air – Navy personnel.
On Wednesday October 9, 2024, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence, Said Kamsouloum representing the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence presided over the ceremony of the presentation of the ‘’Basic Legal Knowledge Guide for the Army-Air-Navy Soldiers’’at the Hall of Acts of the Ministry of the Ministry of Defence.

The ‘’Basic Legal Knowledge guide for Land-Air-Sea soldiers’’ is a vital resource designed to equip military personnel with essential legal knowledge necessary for their duties. The Basic Legal Knowledge is divided into five chapters which covers ; the state of Cameroon and its constitution, the military justice code, legislation on arms and ammunition, strengthening jurisdiction in military operations of the Cameroon Defence Forces, and answers to frequently asked questions.

During the presentation of this document, the Legal Adviser to the Defence Chief of Staff, Magistrate Colonel, Asse Louis Marie, clarified that the guide provides a comprehensive overview of the Cameroonian constitution, emphasizing the rights and responsibilities of soldiers as citizens.

He also added that, it details the code of military justice, ensuring that service members understand the legal implications of their actions and the procedures they must follow. The guide also addresses legislation on arms and ammunition, clarifying the legalities surrounding the handling and use of weapons. It also explores jurisdiction in military operations, highlighting the rules of engagement and accountability during missions.

The section for frequently asked questions offers practical insights into common legal issues faced by soldiers. By fostering a deeper understanding of these legal frameworks, the guide enhances soldiers’ ability to operate effectively and responsibly, ultimately contribution to the integrity and professionalism of the Cameroonian Armed Forces. Following the presentation, a question-and-answer session permitted the audience and the main speaker to address any incomprehension.

At the end of the ceremony, a copy of the ‘’Basic Legal Knowledge Guide for Army-Air-Navy soldiers was handed to the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence on behalf of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence.
