The Cameroonian People: remaining level-headed in a storm of misinformation

The greatness of a People is forged by the challenges they have faced throughout their history. This factual reality remains a constant feature of people’s identities, driven by the desire for affirmation and the audacity of progress. In the current highly troubled geopolitical environment, with an uncertain future resulting from the fierce competition between the resurgence of hegemonic totalitarian regimes and the emergence of a more distributive sovereignist movement, the Cameroonian People must chart the course of their own future.

However, realising this noble and lofty ambition faces many stumbling blocks that must sometimes be removed, sometimes overcome, and sometimes surmounted. This requires foresight, combativeness and determination from all of us, fuelled by an unquenchable spirit of patriotism. This deserves to be said and repeated. At a time when the survival of States is seriously threatened by terrorism, viral pandemics and permanent economic warfare with all three dangers converging in one place we must cherish our country, its resources, its People and their traditions, and our hard-won possessions.

Our present challenge is to remain level-headed in the face of a storm of misinformation carrying truncated interpretations, absurd claims, vague statements and misleading speculation. Leveraging the unbridled noise of the media, this group of troublemakers is trying to push our fellow citizens, particularly the youth, to the brink of suicide. It’s as though the sacrifice of our children and the destruction of our property were the price to pay for achieving some ambition.

Of course, each of us has the legitimate right to dream of a better life and a better future. This aspiration is the main driver of development. Thanks to this dream of a bright future, progress has been made in all areas of social activity. However, progress that brings greater well-being does not come out of nowhere; it is built on and consolidated from what already exists. In this case, it is our achievements. Without them, any idea of moving towards a better future would be nothing but a pipe dream.

For the peace of our country and the benefit of the People we represent, we must scrutinise messianic rhetoric carefully and resist our own angry impulses. We must remain level-headed and confident. /-
