On High instructions of the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Security Forces, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo chaired a security evaluation meeting prior to the start of the 2023-2024 academic year at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Defence on Tuesday August 22, 2023 amidst central and territorial commanders.
Though in-camera, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence disclosed that the special evaluation security meeting is geared at mobilizing all the Defence and Security stakeholders to ensure a smooth school resumption come Monday September 4, 2023. The meeting is held in a security context marked by various threats and upheavals in certain parts of the country particularly in the crisis-stricken zones.
The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence called on the central and territorial commanders to fasten the security belts in their areas of jurisdictions by increasing vigilance at the level of borders that is; land, air and sea. The aim of security meeting is to assess potential security risks, devise security strategies to mitigate them and provide a conducive environment for students and staffs to resume their educational activities without any fear or threat.
It should be recalled that, it is a tradition that before the kick start of the academic year, on instructions of the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Defence organises a special security evaluation meeting prior to back to school in order to increase the presence of Defence and Security Forces in and around schools, conducting security assessments of school buildings and also to show governmentβs commitments to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens, particularly in the education milieu./-
