ONACAM HONOURS EX-SERVICEMEN AND WAR VICTIMS ON THE 33rd EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ELDERLY PERSONS
Commemorated under the theme, fulfilling the promises of the universal declaration of human rights for elderly persons,

the National Office for Ex- Servicemen and War Victims, ONACAM was the lieu par-excellence for the commemoration of the 33rd edition of the international day for elderly persons. This memorable day celebrated every October 1 coincides with the 75th anniversary of the declaration of human rights for the protection of vulnerable persons.

The Ministry of Defence through the National Office for Ex-Servicemen and War Victims of Cameroon ONACAM organized series of medical exercises, expositions, escortions to some renown touristic sites and educative talks under the supervision of the director of the National Office for Ex-Servicemen and War Victims of Cameroon, Colonel® Alfred Fuller.

From the 10th to 12th of October 2023, medical experts from military hospitals conducted free screening and consultation exercises on urology and ophthalmology. Added to this, the ex-servicemen and war victims were sensitized on their wellbeing that is rheumatism and old age, different types of cancer, mental health, post trauma and the reinsertion into civilian life.

The Ministry of Defence has always pay particular attention in the commemoration of the international day for elderly persons.

It should be recalled that, during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Cameroon Defence Forces in Bamenda, on esteemed instructions of the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Secretariat of State in Charge of Ex-Servicemen and War Victims was created, a way of reinserting these brave men of honour into civilian life as well as ameliorate especially their living conditions.
