These young people, whose enthusiasm and determination were evident in their punctuality, took to the streets of the Lycรฉe Gรฉnรฉral Leclerc in Yaoundรฉ, the venue for the exams, at 7am. A series of protocols were followed, candidates were called up, the exam police were read out, and then the tone was set for the first test, which officially launched this first phase, masterfully managed by teams from the Ministry of Defence’s Human Resources Department, assisted for the occasion by those from Military Security, Military Health and former residents of these prestigious American military academies.
The eligibility conditions for these candidates were to be of Cameroonian nationality, to be aged between 17 and 23 on 1 July 2025, to be single with no dependent children, to enjoy full civil rights, to be recognised as fit by a military doctor, to have a perfect command of the English language (reading, writing and speaking), and to hold a scientific baccalaureate or a GCE/AL with at least two scientific subjects.
The young Cameroonians who met each of these conditions were assessed mainly on scientific subjects such as Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. These tests, which were prepared by teachers with extensive professional and academic backgrounds, will simply enable us to select the best candidates who will have the onerous responsibility of representing Cameroon at the selection tests to be held at the United States Embassy in Yaoundรฉ on 21 November 2024, after having passed the medical aptitude tests and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
For the first time ever, the Human Resources Department, with the approval of senior management, succeeded in organising and piloting the same selection tests for two other candidates based in the USA, whose permanent desire to serve their nation remains constant in their minds. They were assessed using the same academic channels and on the same subjects as their counterparts based in Cameroon, so as to guarantee objectivity in the processing of their results.
