In his opening remarks, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence Beti Assomo Joseph, expressed appreciation for the presence of distinguished military commanders and officials from across the nation, noting that their attendance testify their civic duty and unwavering commitment to the Security and Defence of the country, which are essential for sustainable development. The meeting, held 8 months after a similar event in September 2025, is critical as it addresses pressing security concerns in light of upcoming national events.

Minister Beti Assomo Joseph acknowledged the importance of collaboration among various state bodies in ensuring national security, emphasizing that this mission cannot be the responsibility of a single institution. He therefore called for synergy, rigorous coordination, and a shared vision among all components of the state to effectively protect the nation. He also highlighted the ongoing international context affecting national security, including the persistent threat of terrorism in the Sahel-Saharan region, geopolitical tensions, and the implications of the recent armed conflict in the Middle East. These factors necessitate heightened vigilance and adaptability from the nationβs defence and security forces.
He recalled that the upcoming visit of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, scheduled for April 15-19, 2026, requires meticulous planning to ensure security during the Pope’s travels to YaoundΓ©, Douala, and Bamenda.

He outlined key threats, including the persistent threat from Boko Haram and ISWAP in the Far- North Region, with recent incursions leading to kidnappings and Improvised explosive devices placed on roads. In the North-West and South-West Regions, while separatist threats are being contained, recent attacks remind us of the need for continued vigilance. The Eastern Border faces ongoing security challenges from activities by Central African rebel groups and kidnappings. In the Littoral Region, post-election security measures have been reinforced, particularly following the presidential elections in October 2025. Maritime security remains under control, with robust measures in place.
