Zone D Defence Chiefs of Staff conference: a new era of cooperation
The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Beti Assomo Joseph on November 19,2024 presided over the official opening ceremony of the three days pivotal conference, laying the groundwork for cooperation among Defence Chiefs of Staff of the Zone D of the Gulf of Guinea at the Hall of Arts in the Ministry of Defence.

This strategic meeting is aimed at fostering possible axes of cooperation and identify common solutions to shared, maritime challenges.

As the representative of the President of the Republic of Cameroon, Paul Biya, Beti Assomo Joseph’s leadership in this conference underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring regional security and stability.

The conference brought together Defence Chiefs of Staff of the four member countries that is; Cameroon, Equatoria Guinea, Gabon, Sao Tome and Principe not leaving out the representative of ECCAS and high-ranking military officials. This gathering provides a unique platform for constructive dialogue and collaboration.

Speaking during the ceremony the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, transmitted the hearty welcome of the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Paul Biya to the participants, while reminding them that this meeting is a confirmation of the determination of the different Heads of State of the Four member countries of the Zone D of the Gulf of Guinea, to put an end to maritime piracy and other forms of insecurity eating the economies of their diverse countries. So, he called on the participants to pay particular attention to their brainstorming sessions.

 

After the warm reception and words of encouragement from Minister Beti Assomo Joseph the experts continued with their conference, which will run from Tuesday the 19th to Thursday the 21st of November,2024.
