MULTINATIONAL EXERCISE OBANGAME EXPRESS 2026: CAMEROON LEADS THE WAY
The Douala Naval Base (BAND) hosted, on Thursday, April 23, 2026, the opening ceremony of the multinational maritime exercise OBANGAME EXPRESS 2026. The event was attended by Vice - Admiral Jean MENDOUA, Chief of Naval Staff, representing the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defense for the Cameroonian side, and Mr. John Robinson, Chargé d’Affaires at the United States Embassy in Cameroon, for the American side.

Launched in response to the persistent insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea, OBANGAME EXPRESS is now in its fifteenth iteration. Cameroon led the planning of this edition, marking the very first time that an African country has overseen the entire process.

This unprecedented responsibility reflects the growing trust of the international community in Cameroon’s strategic leadership, as well as Africa’s institutional capacity to design, coordinate, and enhance complex multinational initiatives in maritime security.

The innovation of this edition lies in its technological and operational enhancements, particularly through the integration and training of personnel in the use of naval drones, along with the acquisition of new capabilities to enhance operational interoperability and collective responsibility for security in the Gulf of Guinea.

Thus, from April 27 to 30, 2026, vessels of the Cameroonian fleet, together with those of participating nations, will carry out exercises at sea to achieve the set objectives.
