The ceremony marks the beginning of official funeral activities for the veteran and highly trained military officer who passed away on the 9th of May 2026 at the age of 87.
A military guard of honor accompanied the casket draped in the national flag while those present took turns in paying funeral honors to the deceased, reflecting the recognition of the Major General’s decades of loyal service to the nation.
Throughout the church service, the late Major General was described as a dedicated officer whose commitment to national service left a lasting impact on the Defence Forces. Worth mentioning is that, during his long military career which debuted on October 19, 1960 in the prestigious French military Academy, Saint Cyr, Major General Mpay held several key command, operational, administrative and training positions.
Amongst posts he held, was the commander of the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th Military regions, one time head of the Operational Command in Douala and till his demise was the Commander of the Joint Schools and Training Centers.
His mortal remains have been transferred to the Headquater’s Brigade chapel for a wake keep while last military honors will be done on July 31, 2026 at the courtyard of the Headquater’s Brigade.
