Acting on the high instructions of the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Paul Biya, the two ministers are on a two-day working visit to assess the security situation and strengthen measures to curb insecurity and its impact on local communities.

Received by administrative authorities and a large gathering of internally displaced persons (IDPs), the presidential envoys conveyed a message of reassurance and solidarity.

The Minister of Territorial Administration called on the population to maintain close collaboration with administrative authorities and the defence and security forces to safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity.

For his part, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence announced the creation of a new Rapid Intervention Battalion unit, BIR Lake Chad, comprising more than 1,000 personnel, with about 800 already deployed in the locality. He also called for the allocation of two hectares of land for the construction of a military base in Waza.

The IDPs also received a special assistance package comprising consumable and non-consumable items, together with financial assistance from the Head of State and his wife.

The visit underscores the Government’s continued security and humanitarian response to communities affected by insecurity in the Far North Region.
