SPAIN CELEBRATES NATIONAL DAY IN CAMEROON, REAFFIRMS STRONG BILATERAL TIES
The National Day of Spain (Fiesta Nacional de España) was celebrated on October 12, 2026, in Spain and around the world, including Cameroon, where the occasion was marked at the residence of His Excellency Juan Pedro Pérez-Gómez Delaunay, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Cameroon, in Yaounde.

The celebration featured a festive dinner attended by a distinguished gathering of personalities representing friendly nations. Cameroon was notably represented by several senior government officials, including the Secretary-General of the Ministry of External Relations, Oumarou Chinmoun, representing the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella; Joseph Beti Assomo, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence; and Martin Mbarga Nguele, Delegate General for National Security.

In a demonstration of bilateral cooperation and mutual respect, the national anthems of Cameroon and Spain were performed, setting the tone for the ambassador’s address to the distinguished guests, among whom were senior officials of the host country.

“My wife and I have the honour of welcoming you this evening on the occasion of the celebration of the National Day of Spain. Your presence is a testament to the friendship that unites our two countries and the quality of relations between Spain and Cameroon. October 12 is an opportunity for us Spaniards to celebrate our diversity, our openness to the world, and our commitment to dialogue, peace, multilateralism, and cooperation among nations,” said His Excellency Juan Pedro Pérez-Gómez Delaunay.

The ambassador also highlighted security cooperation as a key component of the bilateral partnership between the two countries.

“Cooperation between Spain and Cameroon also extends to the field of security. It constitutes one of the major pillars of our partnership, encompassing the training of defence forces, police and security cooperation, the fight against terrorism and illicit trafficking, as well as the strengthening of operational capacities,” he added.

Beyond security, Cameroon and Spain maintain strong ties across several other sectors, with Cameroon occupying a strategic position in Central Africa. This cooperation spans education, politics, the economy and more characterised by regular and constructive dialogue and the participation of Spanish companies in infrastructural development, renewable energy, engineering and industry.
