BILATERAL COOPERATION: CAMEROON-CHAD STRENGTHEN MILITARY TIES TO COMBAT COMMON SECURITY THREATS
The Minister of the Armies, Ex-Servicemen and War Victims of the Republic of Chad, Mr. Daoud Yaya Brahim conveys a delegation on a two days working visit to Cameroon.
The aim of the visit that will run from the 2nd to 3rd of October 2023 is geared at enhancing Regional Stability between Cameroon and Chad as well creating a platform for dialogue, cooperation and strategic planning in the field of defence.
The Chiefs of Staff and experts on the first day brainstormed on the bilateral military ties which encompasses joint training exercises, intelligence sharing and coordinated operations against common threats such as the incursion of the Boko Haram Sect.
The two States also converse on the fight against piracy in the Gulf of Guinea and also to promote regional stability and peacekeeping efforts in Africa through the participation in the Multinational Joint Task Force of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (MNJTF) which comprise of troops from Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Benin.
At the end of the working session, both experts are expected to come out with some recommendations to solve the delimitation problem between Cameroon and Chad that has implications for various aspects including security, natural resources and the wellbeing of the populace.
The visit of this important delegation and the deliberation with their Cameroonian counterparts is a gateway to device new defence strategies and tactics on how to oust their common enemy Boko Haram and counter attack other forms of threats along their borders such as cross-border terrorism, organised crimes and intercommunal violence.
It should be noted that, the military cooperation between Cameroon and Chad reflects a shared commitment in promoting regional security and stability and by working together to address common security threats.
The delegation headed by Mr. Daoud Yaya Brahim comprises of the Defence Chief of Staff, Second Deputy General of the Armies, Major General Yambaigué Beh Felix, the Director of Military Cooperation, Brigadier General, Ahmat Chahid and the Director of Research and information, Brigadier General, Mahamat Mammdou.
