This was done during a ceremony chaired by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Beti Assomo Joseph on July 28, 2026 at the school premises.
The solemn ceremony which entailed the significant handover of the keys and documents of the state-of-the-art building from Minister Beti Assomo Joseph to the Metropolitan Arch Bishop of the Diocese of Yaounde, His Lordship Jean Mbarga Atangana brought together government officials, military authorities, educational stakeholders, the clergy and staff marks a significant milestone in the institutions efforts to improve learning and sporting facilities for its students.
The ultra-modern gymnasium was constructed by the Military Engineering Corps in two phases during a period of 17 months instead of 12 months initially planned due to additional works. The first phase comprised the construction of a modern modular gymnasium convertible into a banquet hall with a capacity of 500 seats on a site of 1100m2.
The complementary phase came into limelight in order to guarantee the safety and autonomy of the site, all these as part of governmentโs efforts in supporting educational development through inter-ministerial collaboration.
It should be recalled that in 2021, the Head of State, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Paul Biya, gave his Very High approval for the Ministry of Defence and the Archdiocese of Yaounde to establish a 5-year collaboration agreement, enabling the Military Engineering Corps to carry out works financed by the Archdiocese for its benefit.
This agreement thus enabled the successful completion and handover of the modular gymnasium amongst other realizations of the Military Engineering Corps such as, the construction in 2021 of Saint John the Baptist Church in the Olezoa neighborhood, a three-storey building for the Anglophone section at La Retraite College in 2021 and an annex campus of INUCASTY in Etoudi in 2024.
The realization of this infrastructure testifies of the Ministry of Defenceโs expanding contribution to national development, illustrating how the technical expertise of the Military Engineering Corps can be harnessed to strengthen educational institutions and invest in the future of Cameroon through improved school infrastructure.
