On the high instructions of the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Paul Biya, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Beti Assomo Joseph, presided over the commissioning of Brigadier General Melingui Nouma Donatien as Commander of the First Joint Military Region. He subsequently installed Colonel Ekoman Ekoman Yves Edgard as Commander of the Headquarters Brigade.
The ceremony also marked the presentation of military insignia to five newly promoted Brigadier Generals, appointed by Presidential Decree of 3 August 2026. They are Brigadier Generals Eloundou E. Mesmin Magloire Aristide, Beko’o Abondo Raymond Jean Charles, Nchankou Mbouombouo Njindam Oumar, Epie Ngome Wilson and Mezui Zo’o Elie Romance.
The ceremony was attended by members of Government, the Diplomatic Corps, senior military officials, civil, religious and traditional authorities, as well as a large crowd that braved the heavy downpour to witness the occasion.
Addressing the newly installed commanders and promoted generals, the Minister Delegate called for greater vigilance, close collaboration and sustained efforts to combat all forms of criminality. He also cautioned military personnel against the abusive use of social media, stressing that greater responsibility comes with greater authority.
From the solemn transfer of command to the presentation of military insignia, the ceremonies reflected discipline, continuity and service to the nation.
