The meeting was held on the High Instructions of His Excellency Paul BIYA, President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, under the chairmanship of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Mr. Joseph BETI ASSOMO.
The event brought together a distinguished institutional gathering around the Minister of Defence, including the Minister of Territorial Administration, the Delegate General for National Security, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie, the Director General of External Research, and the High Military Command, extended to the Territorial Commanders of the Joint Military Regions and Gendarmerie Regions, led by the Lieutenant General, Chief of Defence Staff.
This high-level consultation, which reflects the Government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring a safe and peaceful environment for learners, teachers, and the university community, provided an opportunity to conduct a thorough review of the national security landscape.
Nationally, while the overall situation remains under control, a detailed overview made it possible to evaluate all points of concern across the territory: persistent, sporadic terrorist incursions in the Far North; residual “ghost town” calls on Mondays in certain localities within the North-West and South-West regions despite the resumption of socio-economic activities; and hostage-taking for ransom reported in the northern regions.
Attention was also directed toward securing the eastern and southern borders, regulating mining activities, monitoring the maritime facade against piracy, and neutralizing increasingly recurrent urban crimes, such as infanticide and femicide. In response to these challenges, the Minister of Defence ordered the intensification of security operations, in close synergy with administrative authorities and local stakeholders.
The meeting concluded on a firm and resolute note, reaffirming the full commitment of the Defence and Security Forces to ensuring a peaceful and seamless academic start across the entire national territory.
