The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, BETI ASSOMO Joseph signs a convention with PROMETAL Group, creating a special Fire Fighters Center in Bassa, Douala.
On February 19, 2024 the Minister Delegate at the presidency in charge of Defence, Beti Assomo Joseph paid a working visit to Douala where he signed a convention to enhance the partnership between the Ministry of Defence and PROMETAL GROUP, an iron processing plant located in the Bassa industrial zone of Douala.

This working visit in the MAGZI industrial zone of Douala was endorsed with the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of a special Centre of the National Fire Fighters Corps by Beti Assomo Joseph and to be executed by the PROMETAL Group. The presence of a Fire Fighters unit in this locality is aimed at responding to security threats, fire outbreaks and other consequences of the increasing industrializing area.

The Minister Delegate in his inaugural speech thanked the Director General of PROMETAL for the support his institution is giving the Cameroon government, a gesture which goes in line with the call of the Army and Nation logic by the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Paul Biya.

The Director General of PROMETAL Group, Hayssam El Jammal on his part cited the fire outbreak in one of PROMETAL’S plants last year causing heavy material damage as one of the motivating factors behind the Bassa Special Fire Fighters project. The Director General of PROMETAL Group added that, he believes it is the civic responsibility of PROMETAL to carry out projects of this magnitude for he believes it is with the population that they can move forward.

This new fire Fighters project comes after a convention signed on January 19, 2024, between the Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute where he inaugurated two state-of-the-art factories for the production of iron rods and gas bottles in the economic capital of Douala on Friday, January 19, 2024.These factories, named PROMETAL 4 and PROMETAL 5, are owned by Prometal Group, a leading steel producer in Central Africa.
