Fight against human trafficking: The Operational Command Post of the National Gendarmerie frees thirteen young foreigners at NKOMO 1 neighbourhood, in Yaounde
On Thursday, March 19, 2025, an alert was sent to the Secretary of State to the Minister of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie, reporting that several young foreigners were being held captive in a neighborhood in Yaounde.

In response, the National Gendarmerie boss immediately instructed Lieutenant-Colonel NANA II, Head of the Operational Command Post (PCOPS), to launch a raid in order to get first hand information.

Following key clues, Lieutenant-Colonel NANA II and his elements conducted a search in a house at the Nkomo I neighbourhood, where they discovered and freed thirteen young Madagasies and Congolese who were taken hostage by men of the under world . The operation also led to the arrest of two alleged kidnappers.

Acting on the SED’s instructions, the rescued youths were taken to the National Gendarmerie Military Health Centre for medical check-up, while the suspects were taken to the Operational Command Post for interrogation.

Further investigations led to the arrest of a third suspect and the rescue of two other victims who were held captive in a hotel in Awae.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel NANA II, these young people were lured through the internet, by crooked young Cameroonians who promised them high-paying jobs in Yaounde. Some of the Congolese travelled to Yaounde by road, while others flew in from Madagascar.

The ongoing investigation seeks to uncover the modus operandi of these young cameroonians and bust the entire ring.

This investigation also aims to prevent the arrival of further victms who are expected to arrive in Yaounde soon.
