On Friday 3rd october 2025, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Defence, in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Galax ETOGA, presided over the solemn start ceremony of the 21st International War College (IWC) batch at the institute’s lecture hall, on behalf of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency, in charge of Defence.
The new batch of IWC trainees is composed of 59 Senior Officers including 13 nationals and 46 comrades from Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Cรดte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Ethiopia, France, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, CAR, DRC, Senegal, Chad and Togo.
In his address, the Commander of IWC, Brigadier General NKA Valรจre, made it clear to the new trainees that the college is a place of excellence, rigor and discipline. He then urged them to put-up the values of discipline, humility, team spirit, cohesion and integrity.
The inaugural lesson for the occasion under the theme: “New world order, challenge and power of state actors: the future of Africa?” was presented by Prof. YEBEGA NDJANA Nicolas, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences of the University of Douala.
This 21st batch of IWC, resumed training since 8 September 2025, will be trained for 11 months in domains such as prospective vision on the world and on Africa; strategy and the art of war; interdepartmental actions and security as well as Management, leadership and anticipation. At the end of their training, the Senior Officers will be awarded a second class Advanced Military Studies Diploma (BEMS II) and a Masterโ€™s II in strategy, defense, security, conflict and disaster management from the Center for Research and Policy and Strategic Studies (CREPS) of the University of Yaounde 2-Soa for auditors fulfilling academic prerequisites.
