The murder took place on 22 December 2025, when Staff Sergeant AKAK Rodrigue ARREY, serving at the Presidential Security Department (DSP), was returning from a snack bar at around 9 p.m. with a female friend, and were attacked by two armed robbers. In a scuffle with his attackers, the thugs stabbed him several times before fleeing.

An investigation was immediately opened at the Nkolondom Gendarmerie Brigade. Initial investigations revealed that the alleged murderers used the victim’s and his friend’s phones to extort money from their relatives. With the assistance of the DSP, elements of the Mfoundi Territorial Gendarmerie Regiment arrested one of the alleged murderers on 16 January 2026 in the Etoudi neighbourhood.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel NDONGO Jean Alain, the suspect is a criminal specialise in armed robbery. He had escaped from Yoko Central Prison on 2 December 2025 and took refuge in the city of Yaounde.
At the crime scene, in front of the State Counsel of the Mfoundi High Court, the alleged murderer made a full confession and stated that he had been carrying out this activity for several years. He also confessed to being responsible for the insecurity that has prevailed in this area since last December.

The suspect will be brought before the State Counsel of the Mfoundi High Court in the days ahead. The Territorial Gendarmerie Regiment continues with the investigation as well as with the search of his accomplice.
