Four boys swept away by the waters of the Mayo Tsanaga in Maroua.
On Thursday 13 June 2024 at around 1pm, emergency services from the 401st Fire Company in Maroua were alerted to four boys reported missing in the waters of the Mayo Tsanaga near the Domayo bilingual school in Maroua.

Aged 12, 08, 08 and 07 respectively, the 04 boys belonged to the same family. When rescue swimmers from Maroua’s 401st Fire Company arrived, the body of the 07-year-old boy had already been pulled from the water by local people. After around forty minutes of searching, the bodies of the 03 other boys were pulled from the water by rescue swimmers from the 40th Fire Brigade Group.

The Prefect of Diamaré, the Sub-prefect of the Maroua 1 district, the Gendarmerie and the district chief went to the scene to investigate the sad loss. The bodies were handed over to the family after being examined by the forensic pathologist.

The Prefect advised the population and the Chef de quartier to respect and make everyone aware of the safety instructions regularly issued by the Fire Brigade.

Our sincere condolences go out to the bereaved family!
