The fire brigade of the 30th Fire Brigade Group had noted with bitterness the proliferation of this phenomenon in households for some time, with all the risks that this entails for people and property.
In the space of a week, three cases were recorded in the town of Garoua, including a hydrocarbon fire in the Poukouloukou district on Sunday 13 April 2025, a hydrocarbon fire in the Loperé district on 15 April 2025 and the last case, the overturning of a tanker truck at Carrefour 8 on Friday 18 April 2025.
People were given some practical advice:
— Always store petrol cans and portable containers only in well-ventilated, cool places;
– Never leave petrol cans open;
– Always replace the cap after use;
– Separate any incompatible materials by a distance of at least 6 meters or by a partition.
