Ministry of Defence Brings Military Closer to the Public at 101 Air Force Base
The Ministry of Defence at the 101 Air Force Base officially launched its annual Open Doors event on 17 May 2026, welcoming thousands of visitors for a three-day programme scheduled to run until May19,2026. The initiative offers civilians a rare behind-the-scenes look at military operations and the day-to-day activities of Cameroon’s Defence Forces.

The event site has been divided into two main sections. The northern zone hosts military exhibitions and operational displays, while the southern area accommodates food and beverage stands. Security measures have been reinforced across the base to ensure order and provide a safe environment for visitors and families.

‎Among the units showcasing their expertise are the Communication Division, the Military Engineering Corps, and the Air Force. The Military Health Department is also providing free medical screenings for hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other viral infections.

‎Civilian participation remains significant, with several institutions and businesses taking part in the exhibition. CCA Bank and Afriland First Bank are among the organisations present, while the Police Department is offering on-site assistance for national identity card renewal procedures, enabling visitors to complete administrative formalities during the event.

‎This year’s edition has drawn considerable public interest, boosted by performances from Cameroonian artists Locko and Maahlox, whose appearances have added energy and entertainment to the atmosphere.

‎The Open Doors event is expected to conclude on May 19,2026 with an official visit by Beti Assomo Joseph. As supervisor of the event, he is expected to tour the various stands and interact with participating units.

‎Through this initiative, the military continues its effort to strengthen relations with the civilian population by highlighting its role in national defence, public service, and community engagement.
