With both the Cameroonian and Chinese flags placed side by side and after the national anthems of both countries, the ambassador of the Chinese Republic of China to Cameroon, H.E Xu Yong addressed the gathering and reiterated China’s commitment to promoting peace, security, stability, development and international cooperation. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening military-to-military exchanges and practical cooperation with partner countries, including Cameroon.

Colonel Major Lu Jipeng, Defence Attaché at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Cameroon on his part made it known that, China which participates in various peacekeeping missions worldwide will always respect the sovereingnty and territorial integrity of countries as it promotes peace for world stability.

As 2026 not only marks the 105th anniversary of the Communist Party of the Republic of China but equally marks the 55th anniversary of Sino-Cameroonian diplomatic relations, it should be recalled that, China and Cameroon have developed defence ties over the years through high-level military exchanges, training programs, logistical support, and capacity-building initiatives. While noting that, Chinese military institutions have over the years hosted Cameroonian military personnel for professional training, delegations from both countries have maintained regular exchanges aimed at strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation.
China has also supported Cameroon through military assistance, including the provision of equipment and infrastructure support, as part of broader bilateral defense cooperation. The partnership has focused on enhancing the operational capabilities of Cameroon’s defense forces while contributing to regional peace and stability.
Away from defence cooperation a wider relationship between the two countries, which also spans trade, infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, education, and technology exists, evident is the fact that China remains Cameroon’s leading trading partner.
Both governments have consistently expressed their commitment to deepening collaboration under the framework of their comprehensive strategic partnership, hence, the solemn ceremony served as an opportunity to celebrate history while reaffirming the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership between Beijing and Yaounde.
The diplomatic reception concluded with a common meal marking the continued friendship between China and Cameroon in strengthening cooperation and promoting shared development.
Founded on the 1st of August 1927, the People’s Liberation Army is the Armed Forces of the People’s Republic of China. Its anniversary is commemorated annually by Chinese embassies worldwide as an occasion to reflect on military achievements and reinforce defense and diplomatic partnerships with host nations.
