BRIGADIER GENERAL EDZO’O MVONDO BEGINS FINAL JOURNEY TO ETERNITY

The uniform has been laid to rest. The flag has been draped over the coffin. The final journey of a soldier who devoted his life to the service of the nation has begun.

The mortal remains of Brigadier General EZO’O MVONDO Simon, former Commander of the First Joint Military Region, were removed from the Yaounde General Hospital mortuary on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in a solemn ceremony marking the beginning of his final journey.

The ceremony was presided over by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Beti Assomo Joseph, accompanied by the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Prof Jacques Fame Ndongo, the Minister of Finance, Louis-Paul Motaze, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Galax Etoga and the Governor of the North Region, Jean Abate Edi’i. General officers present were led by Major General Hyppolite Ebaka, Deputy Chief of Defence Staff representing the Lieutenant General, Rene Claude Meka, Chief of Defence Staff.

Together with the bereaved family and friends, they paid tribute to a senior officer whose distinguished military career saw him serve the nation in various caEacities until July 14, 2026, when he answered the final call.

As his coffin, draped in the national flag, was solemnly carried by a bearer party of cadet officers from the Combined Services Military Academy (EMIA), the scene captured the weight of his departure and the honour of a life dedicated to duty.

In a homily based on Psalm 90 :10-13, the officiating minister reminded mourners of the brevity of life, echoing the Psalmist’s prayer : “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”

He urged those gathered to let the loss become a lesson in how they live, calling on them to make every day count through acts of kindness towards their families, neighbours and nation.

From the mortuary, the remains of Brigadier General EZO’O MVONDO Simon will proceed to « Chapel Adent » at the Headquarters Brigade for wake while on Friday, he will be accorded full military honours in a ceremony befitting his rank and distinguished service to the nation.
