ESSAM-ESSE BIDS A FINAL FAREWELL TO BRIGADIER GENERAL EDZO’O MVONDO SIMON
The Defence Forces, alongside civil, traditional, and religious authorities, family members, and the Essam-Esse community of the Sangmélima Subdivision (Dja and Lobo Division, South Region), gathered on September 5, 2026, to pay their last respects to Brigadier General Simon Ezo’o Mvondo, who passed away on July 14, 2026.

For nearly four decades, General Ezo’o Mvondo devoted his life to the service of the nation, earning widespread acclaim for his steadfast loyalty, strict discipline, courage, and unwavering sense of duty.

Representing the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Paul Biya, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo, presided over the solemn funeral ceremony. The ceremony was attended by a distinguished delegation, including the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education; the Minister of Finance; the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife; the Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development; the Secretary of State to the Minister of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie; the Major General of the Defence Staff, representing the Chief of Defence Staff; the Governors of the South and North Regions; General Officers; alongside numerous civil, political, religious, and traditional authorities.

Earlier, on July 30, 2026, the General’s mortal remains were received with full military honours at Yaoundé-Nsimalen International Airport before being conveyed to the Yaoundé General Hospital mortuary. In an official presidential message of condolence, President Biya praised him as a disciplined, courageous, and deeply loyal officer whose distinguished career significantly fortified the institutions of the Republic.

Moving tributes from family members, local dignitaries, Professor Wilson Mvomo, and the late officer’s son, Commander Cédric Ezo’o, recalled a man defined by humility, simplicity, rigour, and selfless dedication. Drawing inspiration from 2 Samuel 3:33, 38, Reverend Father Laurent Nkoumou reminded mourners that true greatness is ultimately measured by the enduring legacy one leaves behind.

As Essam-Esse fell silent in grief, the nation bowed in respect to an exemplary servant of the State. May his soul rest in peace, and honour be to his memory.
