Signed by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence of Cameroon, Beti Assomo Joseph and the Minister of Defence of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the agreement marks a renewed commitment by both nations to tackle shared security challenges through closer cooperation. Present to grace the ceremony were Members of Government, Diplomatic Corps, Defence and Chiefs of Staff, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence, Generals, military and civilian authorities of both countries.

The signing followed high-level consultations conducted on the High instructions of their Excellencies Paul BIYA, President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Cameroon, and BOLA Ahmed TINUBU, President of the Federal Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Prior to the ceremony, defence and security experts from both countries met at the Ministry of Defence to review existing cooperation mechanisms and propose measures to enhance collaboration.

The new framework is expected to bolster intelligence sharing, military training, joint operations, border security and efforts to combat terrorism and transnational crime.

Sharing a border of more than 2000 kilometres stretching from the Gulf of Guinea to the Lake Chad Basin, Cameroon and Nigeria face common security concerns that require coordinated responses. The agreement therefore represents not only a strategic defence milestone, but also a reaffirmation of the strong bonds of friendship and mutual trust between the two neighbouring countries.

As regional security challenges continue to evolve, both nations have signalled their determination to work together in safeguarding peace, stability and prosperity for their peoples and the wider sub-region.
