ESIG 2026 COLLOQUIUM ENDS WITH CALL FOR AFRICA’S ECONOMIC POWER
After three days of debate, the International War College (ESIG) closed its 2026 International Colloquium on Friday, May 29, under the theme : “Economic Warfare : What Are the Strategic Challenges for Africa ?”

The Secretary of State to the Minister of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Galax Etoga Yves Landry, personal representative of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, called on African nations to strengthen economic autonomy and strategic intelligence in the face of growing global economic warfare. He was speaking during the closing ceremony of the International War College (ESIG) Colloquium in Yaounde.

‎Presenting the colloquium report, Professor Henri Ngoa Tabi said global rivalries have shifted from conventional warfare to economic and cognitive domains, placing Africa at the centre of battles over resources, markets, and technology. He outlined four strategic priorities for Africa : strategic autonomy, regional integration through the AfCFTA, technological sovereignty, and cognitive power to control narratives and strengthen soft power.

‎Speaking earlier while opening the closing session, Brigadier General Nka Valère, Commandant of ESIG, praised the interdisciplinary approach of the forum, noting that military and civilian experts, academics, and practitioners had produced proposals adapted to African realities. He thanked the scientific committee, panellists, partners, and the media for their contributions.
