MILITARY ATHLETES SHINE AT 14TH EDITION OF CROSS MINDEF
The parking lot of the Military Stadium in Yaounde came alive on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, as athletes from the Five Joint Military Regions of the country competed in the 14th edition of the military marathon dubbed ‘‘Cross MINDEF.’’

The event was officially launched at 6: a.m. by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence, Saïd Kamsouloum. Competitors took part in the under 35 and over 35 categories over a distance of 14.8 km, while persons with reduced mobility competed in a 2.8 km race and a 2 km walk.

The category for persons with reduced mobility was divided into three groups: wheelchair users, athletes with lower-limb amputations and those with upper-limb amputations. Moussa Digai and Sikamzie Rahim stood out in the men’s amputee category by successfully completing the 2.8 km race, while Nga Fouda, Tsegui Kue, Ngoyegue Minette, and Bibeme Christine emerged of the female athletes with disabilities.

In the women under 35 category, Trainee Gendarme Mongo Mbape finished first ahead of Sergeant Mboro Danielle and Second Class Soldier Belomo Ndzena. In the men’s category, Corporal Umarou Mohamadou emerged winner, followed by Private First Class Soldiers Fouba Nkemaï and Lawan Moussa.

The competition also featured demonstrations in taekwondo, karate, bodybuilding and traditional dances, reflecting the multicultural richness of the Defence Forces.

Trophies and medals were later awarded at the 101 Air Force Base by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Beti Assomo Joseph and senior military officials with the 1st Joint Military Region receiving the overall top prize.
