MINDEF: SOLDIERS OBSERVE ASH WEDNESDAY
Only effort makes you strong. This was the theme set aside for this Ash Wednesday February 22, 2023 as soldiers in the presence of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Defence,

Beti Assomo Joseph converged at the Salle des Acts in the Ministry of Defence to observe this day as prescribed in the Christian calendar. While drawing inspiration from the book of Mathew chapter 6 verses 1 to 6 and 16 to 18, the Military Chaplain Reverend Father NDJOUGA Dieudonné, in his homily held that Ash Wednesday focuses Christian’s heart on repentance and prayer, usually through personal and communal confession. Upon placing Ashes on the forehead of faithfuls comprising of soldiers of diverse ranks as well as civilian personnel in the Ministry of Defence, it was an intention which marks the beginning of lent. Lent is a 40-day season marked by repentance, fasting, reflection and ultimate celebration. The 40-day period represents Christ’s time of temptation in the wilderness where he fasted and where Satan tempted him. Lent ask believers to set aside a time each year for similar fasting, marking an intentional season of focus on Christ’s life, ministry, sacrifice and resurrection.
