Security evaluation ahead of National day commemoration.
On high instructions of the Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, President Paul Biya, on April 5, 2024, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Beti Assomo Joseph presided over a special security evaluation meeting which focused on the security situation of the country ahead of the National day commemoration come May 20, 2024 at the conference hall of his ministerial department.

The in-camera meeting had in attendance the Minister of Territorial Administration, the Secretary of State in charge of the National Gendarmerie, the Secretary of State in charge of Ex-Servicemen and war Victims, the Delegate General for National Security, the Director General for External Research, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence, all territorial commanders who were under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff.

The objective of the meeting was on the general evaluation of the country’s security situation with special emphasis on the upcoming 52nd edition of the National Unity Day which comes up during a period marked by multifaceted challenges both nationally and internationally. At the international level, there is need to fight against international drug trafficking, massive immigration and extremist terrorism while at the national level, the current security situation is marked by major security threats in some parts of the country such as in the Far North region where Boko Haram terrorists perpetrate attrocities, in the restive North West and South West regions where terrorist attacks are considerably on a decline thanks to the prowesses of the Defence and Security Forces, evident is the hitch free unfolding of past major events such as the mountain race, the Youth day and the International Women’s Day.

MINDEF after reviewing the security protocols and potential threats, as usual prescribed the necessary adjustments and the need to strengthen security and vigilance measures throughout the national territory before, during and after the National Day commemoration.
