TRANSBORDER SECURITY: CAMEROON AND CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC REINFORCE DEFENCE COOPERATION IN MOUTCHEBOUM
Cameroon and the Central African Republic (CAR) have reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to regional peace and security through a high-level bilateral meeting on transborder security, held on Thursday, 18 June 2026, in Moutcheboum, East Region of Cameroon.

This strategic session was co-chaired by Cameroon’s Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo, and the Central African Republic’s Minister of National Defence and Army Reconstruction, Claude-Rameaux Bireau. The meeting was strictly dedicated to the thorough evaluation of the security situation along their common border, as well as exploring optimal ways and means to enhance its protection against shared security threats.

Held under the high guidance of President Paul Biya and President Faustin-Archange Touadéra, the meeting successfully crowned two days of dense technical consultations involving military and civil experts from both nations. These sessions allowed for a rigorous review of existing operational arrangements and the methodical follow-up of resolutions from previous bilateral consultations.

Discussions, marked by a spirit of fraternity and mutual trust, focused on the strict control of their nearly 800-kilometre shared border, dynamic intelligence sharing, joint border surveillance, military training, and heightened operational coordination between the Defence and Security Forces of both States.

Speaking during the ceremony, Joseph Beti Assomo highly praised the excellent work accomplished by the experts and reiterated the strategic importance of the existing framework governing defence cooperation between the two countries. He also commended the Governor of the East Region and his team for ensuring the flawless organisation of this institutional event.

For his part, Claude-Rameaux Bireau reaffirmed his country’s unwavering determination to deepen military cooperation with Cameroon, stressing that common security challenges require coordinated, robust, and sustained action, as the stability of both nations remains deeply intertwined.

The meeting brought together members of government, representatives of the diplomatic corps, Defence and Chiefs of Staff, regional governors, senior military officials, and traditional authorities from both countries.

This major consultation marks a decisive milestone in the growing partnership between Yaoundé and Bangui. It brilliantly reflects the shared determination of both Heads of State to promote collective security, regional stability, and lasting peace for their respective peoples.
