Biography
Joseph Beti Assomo, born on 17 August 1959 in Ayos in the Nyong and Mfoumou Division (Centre Region), is a Cameroonian senior civil administrator super scale and politician.
He completed his primary education at the Ayos Government School and his secondary education at the Akonolinga Mixed Government High School. He then enrolled simultaneously at the Yaoundé International Higher School of Journalism and the National School of Administration and Magistracy (ENAM). He finally opted for ENAM (General Administration Section).
He began his career in the public service in 1983. From 1983 to 1990, he was Head of Cabinet of the Governor of the South Region in Ebolowa. From 1990 to 1998, he was successively Divisional Officer of the Ma’an, Mbankomo and Yaoundé III Sub-divisions. He was then successively appointed Senior Divisional Officer, serving in that capacity in the Dja and Lobo Division from 1998 to 2005 and in the Mfoundi Division from 2005 to 2010. From 2010 until he joined the government, he was Governor of the Far-North Region and then Governor of the Littoral Region.
In the cabinet reshuffle of 02 October 2015, he was appointed Minister of Defence, replacing Edgar Alain Mébé Ngo’o.
He holds the following national honours:
- Grand Officer of the Order of Valour;
- Officer of the Cameroon Order of Merit.
