Acting on credible intelligence, elements of the GGTM carried out a targeted operation in the Messa neighbourhood, precisely at the Central Hospital. This operation led to the arrest of a 24-year-old suspect believed to be responsible for several motorbike thefts and who had been actively sought by the National Gendarmerie.

Information obtained during the questioning of the suspect enabled gendarmes to trace and arrest the suspect’s main fence in the vicinity of the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports complex. The 22-year-old was found in possession of four motorbikes that had been reported stolen.

As investigations continued, gendarmes extended the operation to the “Nouvelle Route Briqueterie” area, behind Aurore Hotel, where they seized a further thirty-two motorbikes of suspected illicit origin.

By the end of the operation, a total of thirty-six suspected stolen motorbikes had been recovered, delivering a major setback to the criminal ring responsible for a series of motorcycle thefts across Yaounde.

The two suspects are currently kept in custody at the Mfoundi Territorial Gendarmerie Regiment, where investigations remain ongoing in order to identify any accomplices and return the recovered motorbikes to their rightful owners.
