According to Captain OTELE ETOUNDI MoΓ―se, Head of the Laboratory Bureau of the Central Criminal Investigation Service of the National Gendarmerie, the modus operandi of the first gang is to ride through the city of Yaounde and its surroundings in their taxis to single out their targets. Once the target is on board their vehicle, they would changed direction and drive them out to some deserted area. Using daggers, they rob their victims of valuables, mainly telephones and money.
Then, they force their victims to disclose their Orange Money and Mobile Money codes, in order to totally empty their accounts.
Members of the second gang operate by having their victims sniff out hynoptic substances once they have boarded their taxi, in a bid to make them to voluntarily release the valuables found on them and those they have at home.
The alleged criminals will be referred to the Yaounde High Court on Thursday, 12 December 2024.
Investigation is ongoing in this Service, with a view to arresting two other suspects who are still at large.
