MEDALS, EPAULETTES AND STRIPES AWARD CEREMONY : THE NATIONAL GENDARMERIE HONOURS ITS PERSONNEL
On Wednesday, 1 July 2026, the Esplanade of the Headquarters Brigade (BQG) hosted the traditional medal, epaulettes and stripes award ceremony for civilian and military personnel of the Ministry of Defence. The event was presided over by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence (MINDEF) and served as a tribute to the men and women whose exemplary commitment and dedicated service have earned the Nation’s recognition.

During the ceremony, several members of the National Gendarmerie were appointed to or promoted within various national orders and decorated in recognition of their dedication and outstanding service to the Nation. Among the distinguished recipients was Brigadier General Pierre LOUBA ZAL, Central Director of Coordination of the National Gendarmerie, who was elevated to the dignity of Grand Officer of the National Order of Valour, one of the country’s highest distinctions. This prestigious honour crowns an exemplary career marked by an unwavering sense of duty, outstanding leadership and steadfast commitment to serving the Nation.

Following the official ceremony, the traditional wetting ceremony of the epaulettes and stripes took place at the Headquarters of the Central Services of the National Gendarmerie. Held in a spirit of camaraderie and conviviality, the event brought together newly promoted officers and non-commissioned officers, their families, comrades and members of the military hierarchy, in keeping with a long-standing tradition that strengthens cohesion within the National Gendarmerie.

Presiding over this ceremony, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie (SED/CGN) warmly congratulated all those who had been decorated and promoted. He urged them to regard these distinctions and promotions as a greater responsibility, encouraging them to continue carrying out their duties with exemplary conduct, discipline, loyalty and professionalism in the service of peace, security and the protection of the population.
