The visit was carried out at the premises of the Signals Service of the National Gendarmerie. The purpose was to review the facilities of this entity which is responsible for signals in the National Gendarmerie, and to share views on radio communication procedures, particularly in the event of an aircraft crash.

The National Gendarmerie was represented by Colonel MEVONO NGOMBA Dieudonné, Head of the General Affairs Division (CDAG), the Major heading the Training Service and the Captain heading the Signals Service.

As part of his opening remarks, the Colonel CDAG presented the National Gendarmerie, recalled its missions and its role at airports, such as general surveillance and criminal investigation.

Afterwards, the head of the Signals Service presented his structure and the communication procedures applied by the National Gendarmerie. Following this briefing, a number of concerns were raised about the contribution of the National Gendarmerie in search and rescue operations in the event of an aircraft accident.

After discussions, some recommendations were made, including:

– promoting air search and rescue centres, whose actions often require the involvement of the National Gendarmerie, and upgrading Civil Protection course modules taught at the High Command for Gendarmerie Schools and Training Centres (CECIG).

– enabling greater dissemination of the directory of Gendarmerie Units for sharing in the event of search operations, even in remote areas.

Moreover, considering the capabilities and skills of the Signals Service, the CCAA sought their support in issues such as operational communications and air searches in the event of an aircraft accident.

After the meeting, the visitors were given a guided tour of the facilities of the Signal Services of the National Gendarmerie, followed by a cocktail and a group photograph.
